Free at home Gait Analysis?  Check.  Free trainers if you review the gait analysis site?  Check.  Wow, we are good to you!

What’s the first thing every new runner is told?

“Get a good pair of trainers!

Which is all well and good but it does beg the question of what exactly is a “good” pair of trainers.  And that’s when the complicated discussions start.  Go to a specialist running shop.  Talk to an expert.  Get gait analysis done.

Which is all well and good if you happen to live close to a shop that can give you that kind of specialist advice.  But what if you don’t?  And of course traditional bricks and mortar shops are more expensive than online retailers.  And if you are new to running you might feel a bit self concious about the whole thing.  Thinking about it wouldn’t it be great if you could do gait analysis at home?

Well there is no such thing as an original idea (at least for me!) because the good people at Mizuno have beaten me to it with their revolutionary new “Precision Fit” system.

Gait analysis in your own home...

It;s a straightforward process but set yourself some time to do it – it’s very comprehensive!  You answer a series of questions that range from your weight and average speed to your foot rotation and the gap between your knees when standing up.  The instructions seem clear but there are video instructions as well.  By the end of the process you’ll get a recommendation for a pair of trainers that suit your running style.  You can see it all for yourself at

I don’t want to say too much because there are going to be three comprehensive reviews of the website appearing on these very pages in the not so distant future.  And I’d like some of you lot to do the reviews for me…

I have one reviewer lined up already but I need two more.  I need one runner who is a relative novice, running less than a year and with a 10k time of an hour+.  I also need a more experienced runner, two to three years running and running a 10k in the 45 minute region.  If that’s you then you’ll need to work your way through the Precision Fit system and keep notes so that you can write up a review for us.

But of course the only way to know if the system actually works is to try out the trainers that it recommends.  So Mizuno have kindly agreed to send a **free** pair of the recommended trainers to our reviewers.  You wear them for a while and let us know if the Precsision Fit system did it’s job and recommended the right trainers for you.

So how do you apply to be a reviewer?

Send an email to us at this address giving us the following details:

  • Your name
  • Address
  • Show size (being clear if you are a US / UK or European sizing)
  • The trainers recommended by the Precision Fit system

And the answer to the following question:

In the “Static leg” test how many fingers do you try to fit between your knees / ankles?

We’ll leave this up for a while to let as many people as possible see it and we’ll get the reviews rolling as soon as we can after that.

So what are you waiting for?  Go look at!!
